The hematology and oncology patients of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital are cared for by world renowned physicians who are associated with our Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Along with these exceptional doctors, specialized nurses experienced in the care of children, teens and young adults with cancer and blood disorders play a vital role in the care of hospitalized children at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Our team is further strengthened by comprehensive pediatric–centered services including Child Life, Clinical Technicians, Speech/Physical/ Occupation Therapy, Social Work, Pastoral Care and Pediatric Nutrition. Palliative care and pain services are also available and aimed at alleviating patient suffering and providing comfort to acutely sick and terminally ill patients.
Patients admitted to the Pediatric inpatient unit are cared for by 2 separate teams of doctors, depending on their condition. These teams are led by the Pediatric Hospitalists (‘Grey Team’), and Pediatric Hematologists/Oncologists (‘Blue Team’).
